Serial Hierarchy Element Help

Overview

SobekCM provides enhanced and advanced support for serial hierarchy, which supports newspapers, journals, and other serials, as well as related sets of materials as with research materials, archival collection sets, data sets (or datasets) and more.

Example: If an item has both chronology AND enumeration, you can encode both within the provided serial hierarchy levels. For example, if an item is identified as both Volume 1, Issue 2 and Spring 2010, the text can combine these pieces of information. Level 1 text can be "Volume 1 (2010)" and the level 2 text can be "Issue 2 (Spring)". Before encoding this way, be sure that the enumeration is analyzed to determine that volumes are related to years. If volumes span two different years, you can always encode it "Volume 1 (1900-1901)". In general, enumeration should be omitted for newspaper type materials.
