Migration to SobekCM

Preparing for your Migration

The first step of a migration is often establishing the aggregations (or collections) within your instance of SobekCM. To prepare for this step, you should consider the following:

• A banner image. Usually the banner is about 900 pixels wide and between 50-140 pixels high. This will appear at the top of all the aggregation top-level pages.
• A button image, if it will be linked from the bottom of parent collection (or the front page). This should be 50x50 pixels wide.
• Text for the aggregation home page.

You may not necessarily need to migrate every collection into SobekCM though. When newspaper or periodical content is loaded into systems which do not include good serial hierarchy newspaper support, often a collection is made for each title, to allow the user to browse all the issues in that title. With the serial hierarchy and newspaper support in SobekCM, this is not necessary.

Migrating your Digital Resources

The SobekCM system is standards-based and accepts METS packages or bulk ingest from MARC or XML spreadsheets.

Essentially, take your old images and metadata, create new METS packages through some conversion process, and load the materials through the SobekCM bulk loader. Be sure to include your new collection codes in the METS, so you don't have to move each resource into their aggregations after the migration.
