User Help Metadata Schemes and Help
MetadataMets FilesAll resources which are housed in a SobekCM repository are stored in Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS) format. In addition, all resources which are loaded through the SobekCM Builder should be encoded in a METS file. METS files include data about each file in a bibliographic resource, as well as descriptive and administrative information about the resource. The bibliographic information can be encoded in either Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS), Dublin Core, or MarcXML. Processing information is encoded in a locally-defined schema. In addition to the main SobekCM extension schema, other project and resource specific extension schemas may be created. During the normal workflow at the Digital Library Center, METS files are created by the Quality Control Application, and then reviewed by our text technicians. Much of the bibliographic data for these METS files are imported from the catalogue record, when one exists. The METS file for any item loaded into SobekCM can be viewed by selecting METS Metadata under the Citation. Metadata ToolsSeveral tools are available for creating SobekCM compliant METS file and resource packages. Click here to view the different software packages freely available for this. In particular, the SobekCM METS Editor can make individual METS files or batch create METS files. Related Resources
